Capri

Simon Doonan’s article A Capri Affair in the August issue of Travel & Leisure has evoked all of my wonderful memories of Capri. I absolutely love the place! Doonan and designer husband Jonathan Adler, travelled to Capri with fashion designer Trina Turk and her photographer husband Jonathan Skow. Looking at all their beautiful photos, it’s not hard to see how they were all utterly inspiration by everything they saw – the sea, the beach, the Capresi people…

After flipping through the article, I couldn’t help but have (yet another) a look at Pamela Fiori’s gorgeous book In the Spirit of Capri. I have had this book for a long time, but every time I pick it up I am inspired. Capri really is a special place.

Season 4 of Mad Men premiered yesterday in the US! Very excited to watch another dramatic season and I can’t wait to see all the beatutiful 1960’s costumes and decor.

Four Continents

The gorgeous London apartment of interior decorator Christopher Leach is featured in the July issue of The World of Interiors. The whole apartment is stunning but I was particularly amazed by his bedroom which is covered in Peter Dunham’s toile four continents. He didn’t just stop at the walls though, he also covered the ceiling, doors, drawers and lamp shades in the chocolate coloured toile!!! It took over 100 metres of the fabric to cover the space as it has such a narrow repeat!

I think this looks amazing, but I’m not too sure about the pleated ceiling?!

Peter Dunham’s four continents is available at Diane Bergeron Interiors.

On my recent trip to NYC for the launch of Susanna Salk’s Room for Children I was lucky enough to meet Cortney and Robert Novogratz from Sixx Design. As parents of 7 children, yes 7, they are such an inspirational team and do an amazing job at converting ‘wrecks’ into fabulous, stylish homes. Their design aesthetic mixes old and new (which they do flawlessly), and combines interesting finds from overseas as well as an impressive collection of artwork from young artists.

If you haven’t heard of them (where have you been?!), have a look at some of my favourite images below, or jump on their website at www.sixxdesign.com

You can also catch this amazing duo on Bravo TV’s 9 by Design. The series follows Cortney and Robert’s life over a 6 month period, during which they worked on 6 huge design projects including the Bungalow Hotel, a 10,000 square foot glass house on Manhattan’s West Side Highway and the conversion of a gun shop located on the edge of Soho into a stunning home. Although it hasn’t been released in Australia yet, I have been able to watch the series and absolutely love it!

As if all that wasn’t enough, their new book Downtown Chic is also available and contains most of their projects up to now. I just received my copy and can’t wait to start flipping through!

Arbre de Matisse

How amazing does Tory Burch’s breakfast room look decorated completely in China Sea’s Arbre de Matisse. Despite the excessive use of the beautiful fabric, she has made it work and has created a really fun room! I would love to sit there everyday for breakfast.

The same room was then transformed into a lounge for Tina Barney’s photo shoot of Tory’s Spring 2010 collection. I love how everything blends together and the only thing that allows you to distinguish what’s what is the brush fringe on the pillows!

The Arbre de Matisse print, inspired by Matisse’s work, is one of Quadrille’s most popular fabrics. Below are some pictures of how other designers have used it.
